Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about watching, creating and earning on Nowboja.
Watching
What is Nowboja?
A home for independent cinema — short films, features, vertical series and masterclasses from indie filmmakers, actors and crew.
Is it free?
Many films are free. Some are ticketed, and some series unlock episodes with Popcorns. Creators choose the price.
What are vertical series?
Short, phone-friendly episodes you can swipe through — up and down between series, left and right between episodes.
What's in the Behind the scenes tab?
Photos, videos and director's notes that creators share about how their film or series was made. Some extras are free for everyone; others unlock once you've supported the project with a ticket or by supporting the team.
What is my Library?
Your Library holds your awards, watchlist, ticket stubs, film diary and a quick way to continue watching.
What is an Opening Night premiere?
Creators can schedule a premiere with a countdown. RSVP on the film page, and when the countdown hits zero, the film unlocks with a live audience chat running alongside the screening.
What are curated collections?
Themed shelves of films hand-picked by curators — like a mini film festival. Each collection has its own page you can share, with a note from the curator about why the films belong together.
Can I watch on my phone?
Yes. Nowboja works in any browser and can be added to your home screen like an app.
Tickets, Popcorns & support
How do tickets work?
A ticket is a 48-hour rental. The clock only starts when you first press Play, so you can buy now and watch later. You can also add optional support for the team at checkout.
I got a screener link — what is it?
Creators can send free screener passes to cast, crew, press and festival programmers. Open the link, sign in and the film is yours to watch for 48 hours from your first play, with a ticket stub in your Library.
Can I gift a ticket to a friend?
Yes. On any ticketed film, choose Gift a ticket, add their name and a personal note, and you'll get a unique claim link to send them. They open it, sign in and the ticket is theirs.
What are ticket stubs?
Every ticket you buy becomes a collectible stub in your Library, stamped with the film's poster, title and the date and time you bought it — your own little cinema archive.
What are Popcorns?
Popcorns are Nowboja’s digital tokens. Use them to unlock vertical series episodes or to buy film tickets in one tap. They have no cash value outside the platform.
Can I buy a film ticket with Popcorns?
Yes. Ticketed films show a Popcorn price next to the card price. It’s a little cheaper because there’s no card fee, and the creator earns exactly the same. You get the same 48-hour viewing window and ticket stub.
Can I earn free Popcorns?
When daily check-ins are on, visit and claim each day: +1 Popcorn, and +5 on day 7 of your streak. Streaks follow your local time.
Where does my support go?
Support payments go to the project’s creators, shared between collaborators the way they’ve agreed.
For creators
How do I upload a project?
Go to Studio, choose Upload, add your video file or a YouTube/Vimeo link, and you’ll land in draft mode to fill in details, credits and pricing before publishing.
Do I keep ownership?
Yes — you keep full copyright. Nowboja may use posters, trailers and clips to promote your project on and off the platform. See our Terms of Service.
How do I get paid?
Connect a payout account in Studio. Earnings from tickets, series, subscriptions and support payments are paid out through Stripe once you reach the payout threshold.
Can I see how my audience watches?
Yes. Studio Insights shows watch time, how far viewers get (25/50/75/100%) and per-episode performance — without revealing who watched.
Can I add behind-the-scenes extras?
Yes. Use the Behind the scenes tab when editing a film or series to add photos, videos and notes — and choose whether each extra is free for everyone or reserved for supporters.
Can I schedule a premiere?
Yes. Set an Opening Night date on your film and the page shows a countdown with RSVPs. When it hits zero, the film unlocks and a live audience chat opens alongside the screening.
Can I send my film to cast and crew for free?
Yes. Each paid film comes with 5 free screener passes in the Comp passes tab in Studio. After that, each extra pass costs 35 Popcorns. Passes give 48 hours of watch time from first play. You can label each pass and revoke any pass that hasn't been claimed yet.
What is the Promo kit?
A one-click generator in Studio that turns your poster into a ready-to-share social graphic — with the Nowboja wordmark, festival-style laurels, your ticket price and a QR code linking straight to your film page.
Will I know when my film hits milestones?
Yes. You'll get a notification when your project crosses view, hype, ticket and support milestones — like your first ticket sold or 1,000 views.
Can I split earnings with my team?
Yes. Add collaborators to a project and set each person’s share.
Awards & badges
How do I earn badges?
Badges unlock from real activity — watching, daily streaks, hypes, comments and saves. Creators also earn awards for publishing and audience milestones.
Where can people see my badges?
Unlocked awards appear on your public profile's Trophy shelf. You'll get a notification each time you unlock a new level.
Reviews & ratings
How do I rate a film?
Open any film and give it 1–5 stars, with an optional short review. Mark it as containing spoilers and it'll be blurred until readers choose to reveal it.
What is my Diary?
The Diary tab in your Library is your personal film log — every rating and review you've written, with the poster and the date you watched.
Can I react to other reviews?
Yes — tap Helpful on reviews you rate. Creators see the love, but never who left it.
Profiles, credits & messages
How do I get credited on a project?
Open the project and request a credit with your role (and character name if you acted). The uploader approves it.
Can I show a showreel on my profile?
Yes. Actors can add a showreel, and crew members — cinematographers, editors, sound designers and more — can add a craft reel to their portfolio.
Who can message me?
You decide in your Privacy settings. Messages from people you don’t know arrive as requests you can accept, delete or block.
Something’s wrong — who do I contact?
Message the Nowboja team from your account, or use the report option on any message or content.
